About Test
A lipid profile is a blood test that measures the levels of various types of lipids (fats) in the blood. The test typically includes measurements of total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides.
A lipid profile is often used to assess an individual’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease, as high levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and low levels of HDL cholesterol, can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. The test is typically recommended for adults over the age of 20 who have not previously been diagnosed with high cholesterol or other risk factors for heart disease.
The best time to take a lipid profile test is in the Morning, after an overnight fast of at least 9 to 12 hours. This is because eating or drinking anything other than water can temporarily affect your lipid levels, which can result in inaccurate test results.
